Ball Brothers Foundation Accepting Nominations for $15,000 ‘Excellence In Teaching’ Award

MUNCIE, Ind.—Ball Brothers Foundation is currently accepting applications for its annual Excellence in Teaching Award which recognizes the work of an outstanding and innovative Delaware County public school educator. The honor includes a $15,000 grant to promote innovation in the winning teacher’s district, school and classroom.

This marks the third year of the Excellence in Teaching award. The first award was presented in 2013 to Holly Stachler, an elementary school teacher in Yorktown. The 2014 award was presented to Julian Ravenscroft, an algebra and calculus teacher at Daleville Jr.-Sr. High School in Daleville. Among other criteria, teachers were selected based on their use of unique approaches to motivate students through authentic learning experiences.

“The Excellence in Teaching Award provides Ball Brothers Foundation the opportunity to highlight the outstanding talent of Delaware County’s teachers,” stated Jud Fisher, President and COO of Ball Brothers Foundation. “Each year we have been very impressed with the incredible creativity and dedication displayed by nominees from across the county. As our judges complete the selection process, we come away with a clear sense that Delaware County’s teachers are truly preparing students for success in the 21st century.”

The grant program is open to K-12 classroom educators with at least three years of teaching experience in any of the county’s public school systems. Each of the county’s public school districts are encouraged to nominate two teachers for the award using criteria they develop.

A panel of outside judges reviews the applications and selects three finalists. The award winner is selected after a final review by the foundation staff. The program culminates in a reception that honors the winner and the finalists. The application form, available via the Ball Brothers Foundation website (http://www.ballfdn.org/grant-info/excellence-in-teaching-award), is due by Feb. 1.
