This summer, as gatherings and networking opportunities ramp back up, BBF hosted a lunch for alumni of BBF’s Fellows Program. The Fellows program started 18 years ago to provide local nonprofit leaders with a 9-month opportunity to read books and articles about nonprofit leadership and governance, to engage with BBF staff in dialogue about nonprofit work and foundation operations, and to promote foundation transparency. Two local nonprofit leaders are selected each year to participate in the program.

To date, 36 local leaders have participated in BBF’s Fellows program. While some Fellows have since left the community or taken new jobs, nearly twenty Fellows were in attendance at the mid-June lunch. Gathering the group together offered Fellows the chance to reconnect and share updates with one another about their current work. BBF’s Jud Fisher also provided an update on BBF’s strategic planning process.

Additionally, as part of our time together, BBF staff posed this question to the Fellows:

“What is a book, podcast, or article that you’ve recently read or listened to that has inspired you either personally or professionally?”

Listed below are just a few of the books and podcasts recommended by members of the group:

  • Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink
