Indiana Loses Businessman and Philanthropist John W. Fisher

Ball Brothers Foundation Chairman and President leaves long legacy of giving

Muncie, Indiana – Ball Brothers Foundation announced today that John W. Fisher, 93, died on Sunday morning, June 28, 2009, after battling leukemia. Fisher guided many organizations over the years, including Ball Brothers Foundation for the last decade as its chairman and president.

“He will be sorely missed. He was a Tennessee native, but he poured his heart into Muncie and the state of Indiana,” said Jud Fisher, executive director/COO of Ball Brothers Foundation. “He was equally determined to provide economic success and philanthropic strategies to make our community better. He used common sense and logic to get things done, whether he was running Ball Corporation or Ball Brothers Foundation.” John Fisher also spent time and his charitable efforts in Leland, Michigan.

John Fisher remained involved in many charitable and business ventures right up to the time of his death. “He loved his family, hard work and giving back,” stated Jud Fisher, John’s grandson. “One of his philosophies was, as he put it, ‘When something needs to be done, you get it done’. Simple and to the point. Family, friends and colleagues are going to miss him, but we’ll carry on his legacy in many different forms.”

John Fisher is survived by his wife Janice, seven children, and dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John and Janice Fisher have personally supported several nonprofit organizations across many states.

John Fisher’s memorial service is tentatively scheduled for July 16, 2009, at High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie, Indiana, at 2:00 PM.

Ball Brothers Foundation was founded in 1926 to promote and carry out philanthropic efforts in the state of Indiana.
