Jud Fisher’s Remarks Announcing 2019 Fisher Governance Award Winner

Good evening, and thank you all for being here tonight.

The Fisher Governance Award recognizes the efforts of a board member serving a nonprofit organization in Delaware County. John W. and Janice B. Fisher, the award’s namesakes, were compassionate philanthropists who strongly believed in the importance of excellent leadership and governance.

On behalf of Ball Brothers Foundation and our Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the recipient of this year’s Fisher Governance Award: Mr. James Rosema of Muncie Mission Ministries.

Jim has been a guiding force on Muncie Mission’s Board of Directors for 30 years—nearly one-third of the Mission’s entire existence. Over the years, he has served in every officer position, including multiple terms as Board Chair.

He embodies a selfless compassion that every leader should strive to have. Jim is a perpetual ambassador for the Mission’s vision, has made in-kind corporate donations that equate to hundreds of thousands of dollars, and has donated personal gifts to support the organization’s financial success.

With his expertise and passion, Jim has helped lead Muncie Mission to strategic and financial success. During Jim’s long-term service on the board, the Mission has

  • expanded its emergency family services and thrift store operations,

  • implemented new programs that serve additional demographics,

  • welcomed new affiliate ministries,

  • transitioned to new executive leadership, and

  • developed a long-term investment fund to support the Mission in the future.

Tonight, Ball Brothers Foundation is honored to recognize James Rosema for the outstanding contributions he has made to Muncie Mission Ministries, which will be awarded a $10,000 grant for operations or further board training.

I am also pleased to present Jim with this specially designed award, which was hand-crafted by Brent Cole of the Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass at Ball State University.

Please join me in congratulating Jim on his unparalleled leadership and governance in board service.
