$3 Million Awarded in First Round of Grants Ignites Transformational Change in the Muncie Community
We’re excited to share the highlights from our first round of grants this year, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to place-based grantmaking. Among the 28 approved grants, two of the largest in this round received funding to bolster growth in downtown—YMCA of Muncie and Muncie Civic Theatre.
A $500,000 grant was awarded to the YMCA of Muncie to support construction of its new state-of-the-art facility on the campus of Muncie Community Schools. This new facility not only demonstrates the YMCA’s commitment to this location but will also invigorate downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Muncie Civic Theatre also received a $100,000 grant for the final phase of remodeling its historic building. The funds will be used to update the antique rigging system, improving safety and usability.
