Enhancing Muncie's White River: Launch Site Plan
Over the next several years, five new canoe and kayak launches are scheduled to be constructed along the White River in Muncie, allowing for canoeing, kayaking, and tubing from the city's east to west gateways.
The addition of these launches comes on the heels of five decades of work by individuals and organizations to improve the water quality in the White River, one of East Central Indiana's most important natural assets.
As the health of the river has improved, so too has interest in related outdoor recreation. A Ball Brothers Foundation grant awarded last year is helping to support the launches.
Construction is set to begin this year at McCulloch Park, with more locations soon to follow. Stay tuned for more updates and read about the launch plans.
Curious about paddling the White River?
Follow along with a group of Ball State students who took their own overnight paddling trip with our friends from The Nature Conservancy. We were proud to support the creation of this video that highlights the promise and possibilities of recreation on the White River.

Field Trip: Foellinger Foundation
Last month, BBF staff traveled to Fort Wayne with our 2023 Fellows, Trevor Friedeberg (East Central Indiana Regional Partnership) and Nate Howard (Muncie Land Bank). We visited the Foellinger Foundation's newly remodeled office building and spent the morning discussing grantmaking, organizational effectiveness, board governance, and more.
Connecting with our grantmaking friends at Foellinger Foundation is a cherished annual tradition that helps local nonprofit leaders learn more about grantmaking and philanthropy from the lens of another private foundation.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to work together as colleagues and friends for the betterment of our communities.
