Summer 2021: Grants, Cybercrime Training, and More
Round 1 grants support Delaware County schools, COVID vaccine efforts, and more
In its first round of grants for 2021, Ball Brothers Foundation’s Board of Directors approved more than $3.3 million in funding. The grants included COVID-19 vaccine distribution and messaging support to local health organizations, recovery and rebuilding support to Delaware County schools, and support to many of Muncie’s steadfast, long-term organizations as they recover from the pandemic.
Project Sybertooth enhancing local cybercrimes training
As technology grows, so too does the threat of cyber attacks on the community.
In an effort to proactively address this issue, Ball Brothers Foundation last year began a new funding initiative and community network to enhance training programs and to support cybercrime investigations. This effort, Project Sybertooth, aims to:
Strengthen the talent pipeline of individuals trained to address cyber threats
Bolster the ability of local law enforcement agencies to deter and investigate cybercrime
Develop new networks of communication between law enforcement, military, elected officials, local banks, local corporations, post-secondary education institutions and nonprofits
Daleville’s Melissa Crist recognized with Excellence in Teaching Award
Melissa Crist, an English and journalism teacher at Daleville Junior/Senior High School, was named the winner of this year's Excellence in Teaching Award. Melissa’s classroom is guided by respect. She presents herself as human— someone who has unique interests, who makes mistakes, and who doesn’t have all the answers—and ensures that every student feels seen, cared for, and respected. As Melissa says, students who feel respected are more likely to work hard and learn.
Brittney Garrett, a 6th grade math teacher at Daleville Elementary School, and Eli Jones, a middle and high school history teacher at Burris Laboratory School, were finalists for this year's award.
