Ball Brothers Foundation announces over $3.5 million in Cycle I Grants
The Foundation continues its Childcare and Quality of Place Initiatives
Muncie, Indiana – Ball Brothers Foundation has announced the approval of grants resulting from its first grant cycle of the year, as well as other grant programs, to several organizations throughout Indiana. The majority of the grants will be distributed to organizations for local efforts while a select few grants were directed to groups with efforts outside the East Central Indiana region.
“We’re continuing our assistance to high-impact, high-achieving childcare facilities,” said Jud Fisher, president and chief operating officer. “Our childcare grant payouts have risen thirty-one percent since the official start to our initiative in 2008. We are taking a measured approach to strengthening these organizations over time. They are the underpinnings of a positive future for many families in our community in terms of early childhood education and more robust economic development,” Fisher stated.
Fisher also noted the early momentum of the Foundation’s “Quality of Place” initiative. The initiative developed out of ideas formed in a partnership with the Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, and the George and Frances Ball Foundation.
“One grant I’d highlight is the ecoREHAB program run by Jonathan Spodek,” Fisher said. “It is a true neighborhood improvement program that remodels homes in an environmentally friendly manner inside and out. You need to establish ‘beach heads’ in various neighborhoods and this program will do that,” Fisher said.
“Think of taking abandoned homes, utilizing Ball State students to rehabilitate them, and then putting them on the market,” Fisher continued. “You eliminate an eyesore, create a resource base of highly skilled individuals through the immersive learning effort, and increase value in the surrounding area. It is an incredible concept and may prove a turning point in various neighborhood renewal efforts. It takes patience for an initiative like ‘Quality of Place’, but I’m confident we can make a difference.”
Ball Brothers Foundation was founded in 1926 to promote and carry out philanthropic efforts in the state of Indiana. The Foundation concentrates on East Central Indiana, with particular focus on Delaware County. The Foundation offices are located in downtown Muncie, Indiana.
