MUNCIE—-For over 90 years, Ball Brothers Foundation has provided grant dollars to support vital efforts in the Muncie/Delaware County community.

Ball Brothers Foundation, which awarded its highest grant payout in history of more than $8 million last year, looks to the future with a strategic board appointment, an internal staff promotion and a website refresh.

Over $80,000 in Grants Awarded to Local Nonprofits
Ball Brothers Foundation, one of the state’s oldest and largest private foundations, awarded over $80,000 during the late spring and summer to support a variety of efforts aimed at improving Muncie, Delaware County, and the surrounding region. The grants were made as part of the foundation’s Rapid Grant program which allows the foundation to respond quickly to community needs.

Legacy Gala Honored Ball Family
Among those who paid tribute to the legacy of the Ball family at the 9th annual Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce’s Legacy Gala was Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb. The event, held at Horizon Convention Center also included speakers James A. Fisher, Chairman & CEO of Ball Brothers Foundation; Geoffrey Mearns, Ball State University’s President; Dr. Jeffrey Bird, President & CEO of IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital; and Stephanie Duckmann, great-granddaughter of Edmund B. Ball and a member of Ball Brothers Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Over $250,000 in Grants Awarded to Support the “Future of Work” at Downtown Muncie’s MadJax
Four local organizations were recently awarded Ball Brothers Foundation grants to build-out spaces and programming that inspires innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration inside MadJax, an 80,000+ square foot maker space in downtown Muncie.

Muncie Community Schools Teacher Named 2019 Excellence in Teaching Award Winner
Erica Collins, a 6th grade science and math teacher at MCS’s Northside Middle School, has been named Ball Brothers Foundation’s 2019 Excellence in Teaching Award winner. The honor includes a $15,000 grant.

Ball Brothers Foundation Announces Rapid Grants for Facility Maintenance Issues, Planning Efforts, and Youth Programs
Nearly 20 organizations have received Ball Brothers Foundation funding since the start of the 2019 year through the foundation’s Rapid Grant program. The Rapid Grant program allows the foundation to respond quickly to community needs.

Ball Brothers Foundation—one of the state’s oldest and largest family foundations—is announcing two changes to its board of directors following the grantmaking organization’s February 2019 meeting.

2018 Annual Report
In 2018 our total grant payout was a record-setting $7.69 million, and of that number, almost $1 million was allocated for projects within Delaware County’s public schools. Although grant amounts were modest, they launched, restarted, or expanded several student-centered initiatives.

BBF Announces Targeted Funding Opportunity for Workforce Development
Ball Brothers Foundation has invited four local organizations to apply for funding in 2019 to address current and anticipated community workforce development needs. The “Future of Work” funding opportunity comes as local manufacturers, K-12 school representatives, and higher education institutions have been seeking opportunities to better collaborate.

BBF Grants to Bolster Muncie Community Schools
Following the historic announcement earlier this year that Ball State University would take a leadership role in helping to transform Muncie Community Schools, BBF has awarded a $1 million grant to assist with these efforts. The grant was one of sixteen requests that received funding during Ball Brothers Foundation’s board meeting in October.
